A Nice Little Christmas Present

I’ve written before about the importance of ratings and reviews at book selling sites. While it’s hardly a perfect predictor, more reviews and higher average ratings seem to drive sales. And that’s pretty logical… most people are more likely to buy something if others have positive experiences with the product, especially if they take the time to return to the purchase site and post their thoughts.

(One note: if you have a Kindle and rate the book on the Kindle when you finish… that rating isn’t seen by anyone else. You have to go to Amazon and leave the rating and review there. I’m told the newer Kindle Fires and possibly the Kindle Paperwhites will let you directly post ratings and reviews to the actual website.)

That’s a practical reason to leave reviews, of course. The other is that a positive review can make a writer feel really, really happy.

Such was my reaction in reading this review on Amazon for A Question of Will. I think the reviewer articulated everything I hoped to accomplish with the book, enjoyed it, and gave it five stars. I read the review and wanted to read the book the reviewer was describing. My hope is that others have the same reaction.

Thanks to everyone who has read my books! I appreciate all of you, and hope that you have a tremendous holiday season and a wonderful new year!
